Practical Improvements

Stroud District Council is very likely to remove its financial, technical and administrative support for the pool at the end of March 2011. In anticipation of this and the likely move to independent operation of the pool between Wotton Town Council and the Swimming Pool Club a number of improvements are being implemented.

This is to:

  • Ensure the pool is good condition before it is handed over to a fledging management structure
  • Improve the appearance of the facility so it becomes a nicer place to visit (ie revenue!)
  • Guarantee the important Health and Safety aspects of the pool
  • Reduce costs

The Town Council and SDC have shared a £14,000 bill to help with this and the Swimming Club and other gratefully accepted helpers (eg Wotton Round Table) are working hard to get these improvements in place.

The items that are being addressed are:

  • Replacement Chemical Dosing system (Water Quality and Safety)
  • Refurbishment of the Water Filter (Water Quality and Safety)
  • Elimination of a number of underwater entrapment hazards (Safety)
  • Improvements to pipe work (reliability for the season)
  • Installation of new solar panels (shower heating cost reduction: Panels donated by EdF in Gloucester)

The medium term plan is:

  • To get the donated reclaimed panels installed that will reduce the electricity cost for operating the showers
  • Install new pool water heating panels over the old solar panel to reduce the pool water heating costs
  • To get improvements to the toilets
  • Possible installation of decking in the area between the changing rooms and the pool enclosure to improve under foot conditions, reduce the trip and foot damage hazard and improve the appearance.

So, if you want to help with this then:

  • Your practical effort would be appreciated
  • Any sources of money would be welcome
