50 Glorious Years

It's official.  The opening text cut from the venerable construction report confirms the pool is 50 years old today.  Construction started in 1958 and continued through to 1962 (if you include the later addition of the changing rooms).  The official opening was on 1 June 1961 50 years ago.  The same year as John Glenn went into space and the first year in the 20th century that you could read the same upside down!
