Centenary celebrations in Wotton

Wotton is full of volunteers, doing really great things for the community. It is such a nice place to live, or work, in, or near! Wotton Electric Picture House is celebrating its centenary this year, a real achievement. There were a few years when Wottoners had to go outside the town for the cinema experience, but thanks to the hard work of a lot of volunteers, and fundraisers, and many donations from some very generous people, the WEPH reopened, better than ever before. The 100th birthday street party last weekend was a great success. The cinema raised some money, but it also gave the shops and other community enterprises to get their names better known and to earn / raise money in a fun and family oriented environment. Wotton Pool's tombola and raffle stand was organised incredibly well, with some really great prizes that were donated by a range of local businesses: from a meal at the Falcon, to a cool bag and ice packs from Atwools (very handy in this weather!) to a free Zumba class, to goggles, Bottle Green Cordials, and and and... the list goes on. Thank you to all those of you who supported us and donated prizes, incuding: Wotton Directory, Wotton Farm shop, Bank Yard Garage, The Edge Health and Beauty, The Entertainer in Yate, and many others. Thank you too, to those of you who entered the tombola and raffle, and to all the volunteers on the stand on a very hot and tiring day. And in the end the effort raised over £500, enough to pay for the two new picnic tables and seats at the pool.  A job well done!
